CHAWP Girl’s Training Trip to Hungary

NEWS FROM HUNGARY  posted Thur. 8 AM

Day six:  Tuesday:
We drove 2 hours to Eger were we played their woman's team and a team visiting from Sweden.  After that we had a brief tour of Eger and the history regarding the castle on the hill that was invaded by the Turks.  In the evening we played the Swedish team again and one of their girls received a hard elbow to her nose.  She definitely broke it.  We traveled home and all is well.

Day Seven  Wednesday:
We arrived in Dunaujvaros safe and sore from the training the days prior.  Mihok, the coach here, gave our girls a good training in the AM and then we played the younger group in the PM.  We played well as the games are getting very physical.  Our girls do not back down!  Our housing is decent and the food is good.  The girls are tired.

Day eight  Thursday:
We have just arrived at the pool in Dunaujvaros and we are getting ready for a ball handling clinic.  I will keep you updated.

Day one ( Thursday): We had a good and long 11 hour flight to Munich. 

Day Two (Friday):
After we landed in Munich we headed for our next flight passing through another security check then to our gate where we waited for 4 hours.  We were taken by bus to the tarmac and then boarded our plane for a 1.5 hour  to Budapest. Our bus picked us up and we were transported to our Hotel to unload and get our room assignments.  The girls picked out their roommates (two to a room).  We ate dinner then proceeded to the pool at Budafok for some swimming , legs, passing, shooting and 6-5 offense.

 
Day Three (Sat):
We had to awake early for breakfast at our hotel then off to an 8:00 am game with BVSC women team.  We played OK except for our girls are not adjusted to the time or playing indoors yet.  Even at our workout they had trouble with their breathing.  Our girls played physical throughout the scrimmage.  Our opponents were frustrated that we did not back down from them.  Alex Escobar had her girl she was playing against take a wing at her.  We keep our composure and gave them a respectable match.  In the afternoon we watched the quarter finals of the women's Len cup Domino(Hun) vs Vouliagameni(gre).  The team from Greece was very skilled and they won 10-7. After dinner we went to the movies and watched the Nanny Diaries; in English with Hungarian subtitles. Some of the girls are finding it hard to adjust their "time clocks".
 
Day Four (Sun):
We were able to sleep in until 9:30 am, had breakfast then we went to Statue Park where the Hungarian people have moved all the reminders (statues) of Communist rule prior 1990.  Then we went to the house of Terror.  The house of Terror was the secret headquarters of the Nazi Party and then the Arrow Cross party which was the Communist Secret Police (AVO and the AVH). The girls didn't seem that interested in the trip.  We then toured Vaci street, a main street for shopping and tourists, where there was also a spring fair.  At night we played the Budafok 15 & Under boys team for some training.  We celebrated Palmer's 14 birthday with a cake that had a sparkler on it!
 
Day Five (Monday):
We woke early to train with Budafok again since it is a major Holiday for the Hungarian people.  They celebrate Easter Monday with a tradition of going to their family's houses so the men shower the women with perfume or water as a gesture of keeping them young forever.  We just finished our tour of the city. Hero's Square, St Stephen Basilica, Fisherman' Bastion, Castle district, the Royal palace, Parliament and the Citadel (where their statue of Liberty is) among other interesting things.  We are eating dinner then we will head to Eger for Tuesday.
